“When designing the graphics used in 1984, I wanted to stray away from classic renditions of “Big Brother” being portrayed as a shadowy figure. Instead, I relied on the ironic sense of fear created by upbeat propaganda in order to provide commentary on our own society. Similarly, I decided to design the visual effects with the context of today’s society, therefore, emphasizing the use of screens, and was able to include visual techniques such as a green screen, transporting actors into a world that was not feasible to create before. All of this, of course, adding to the commentary that any rendition of such an important work of art like 1984 should have.”
